CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ed FitzGerald, the former Cuyahoga County executive who ran unsuccessfully for governor, is working for a consulting firm that has commercial and industrial clients.

He is a vice president for placevalue, a Chicago-based firm, in its Cleveland office. The firm also has offices in Dallas, St. Louis, Baltimore and Washington D.C.

FitzGerald, who has been with placevalue since August, said Monday he did not want to comment about his job since he is in the private sector. The firm provides what it calls independent “workplace strategy” to help companies determine whether to move, lease or buy; develop workplaces and invest and develop their properties.

FitzGerald, a Democrat and former mayor of Lakewood, chose to run for governor last year instead of seeking a second four-year term as county executive. He lost to Republican incumbent John Kasich by more than 30 percentage points.

In April, FitzGerald spoke to Cleveland leaders about a proposed downtown festival that would be run through a nonprofit. His festival plan dates back to his days of leading county government. In 2013, FitzGerald pitched rebooting the Great Lakes Exposition, an event that brought millions of visitors to Cleveland in 1936 and 1937, during the throes of the Great Depression.

A lawyer working for FitzGerald incorporated Great Lakes Exposition Inc., a nonprofit organization, with the Ohio secretary of state.
