Bucksport Hires Consulting Firm for Help Finding Interim Town Manager – WABI

Bucksport’s town manager is out of a job.

The town council voted 4 to 2 at a special meeting Tuesday night to fire Derik Goodine.

He’d only been on the job since June of last year.

The council took a straw poll last Thursday to move forward with the termination.

Following that straw poll councilor Byron Vinten, who was not in favor of the firing, resigned.

Mayor David Keene was among those who supported the move.

He pointed to a clause in Goodine’s contract that allows councilors to fire him without giving an official reason.

“We’ve had several executive sessions with the town manager, discussing town business–where the town’s going, what needs to be done. The majority of the council decided we needed to go in a different direction,” said Bucksport Mayor David Keene.

Beyond that Keene would not say why Goodine was fired, saying that was privileged information from the council’s executive sessions.

At a meeting Wednesday night, the council decided to hire the Eaton Peabody consulting firm, for help finding an interim town manager.

The council will discuss what to do about the seat vacated by Byron Vinten at a meeting next week.

Bucksport’s finance director and economic development director have both resigned in the past year.
