Might Charley Casserly, Ron Wolf have future role with Jets, after consulting … – NJ.com

FLORHAM PARK – The Jets have wrapped up their head coaching and general manager searches, but that doesn’t mean owner Woody Johnson won’t lean on his two search consultants again.

Johnson hired former NFL GMs Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf as consultants, to help find head coach Todd Bowles and GM Mike Maccagnan.

So what is the status now of Casserly and Wolf’s relationship with the Jets?

“It’s officially done at this point, but I’m not precluding a role in the future at some time,” Johnson said Wednesday at the introductory press conference for Bowles and Maccagnan.

Johnson emphasized that for now, Casserly and Wolf are “officially done” with their work for the Jets.

“Charley is back to work, and Ron is going to be in the Hall of Fame,” Johnson said.

So, no, Casserly and/or Wolf won’t have a role in the Jets’ front office under Maccagnan.

Casserly still works for the NFL Network, as Johnson alluded to. Wolf will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, as part of a new contributor category. Bill Polian, a fellow former GM, is also getting in as a contributor.

While Casserly and Wolf don’t have any immediate plans to do more work for Johnson, it’s clear Johnson thinks highly enough of both men that he would consider relying on them again, down the road at some point.
