John Madden Agent Montag Starting Own Consulting Firm – Bloomberg

Latest post from Evan Vitale Consulting -

Sandy Montag, the IMG executive whose clients include Bob Costas, John Madden and New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin, said he’s starting his own consulting firm.

The Montag Group, based in New York, will work with teams, leagues, networks and sports and entertainment companies focusing on content development and negotiations, said Montag, who started at IMG in 1985.

Montag said his representation of more than 50 broadcasters like Jim Nantz, coaches and athletes, exclusively with IMG, will continue.

“Content is moving to small screens, mobile screens,” Montag said in a telephone interview. “There’s huge opportunity for Internet companies and providers to get into that business. It’s something I’d like to take a good look at.”

Additionally, the newly formed company, wholly owned by Montag, will continue partnering with Ari Fleischer Sports Communications for communications strategy, media training and crisis management. Montag and Fleischer began their association when Fleischer left the White House in 2003 after serving as press secretary for George W. Bush.

National Basketball Association Commissioner Adam Silver said Montag “will be very successful.”

“Sandy’s commitment to his clients is unrivaled and his knowledge of the broadcasting and media industry encyclopedic,” he said.

William Morris Endeavor Entertainment LLC and Silver Lake Management LLC in December bought IMG from Forstmann Little & Co. for about $2.4 billion.

Montag negotiated one of the largest sports endorsement contracts for Madden, the former National Football League coach and broadcaster whose latest version of the Electronic Arts Inc. video game will, according to analyst Doug Creutz of Cowen & Co., generate more than $350 million in revenue. EA started the Madden franchise in 1988.

Led by Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell, William Morris represents some of Hollywood’s biggest actors, directors and writers, including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Model Gisele Bundchen is also a client.
